Cannot connect DroidVPN after upgrading to Lollipop

Posted on May 29, 2015 @ 9:59 pm

We've been receiving reports that users can no longer connect after upgrading their android device to Lollipop. The error messages that would appear if you are having this problem is "Error: Failed to protect VPN socket!" or "Error: Failed to start engine!".

We believe this problem is connected to this android bug report. When you first used DroidVPN there is a pop up notification with a checkbox labeled "I trust this application". The bug basically makes your device think that you have already checked that checkbox and that DroidVPN is now allowed to use the VPNService API but in fact its not since it hasn't been shown to you since you upgraded your device.

Solution

To fix this problem you simply need to:

  1. Uninstall DroidVPN
  2. Restart your device
  3. Install the latest version of DroidVPN

Still not working?

If its still not working can you please send the name of the android device that you are using to support@droidvpn.com so we can try to test that device on our side and check what is causing the problem.

Thank you!
